Connection Guide

Notice: Do not use a telephone line to connect your computer to the network jacks. You can pick up a network cable in Dailey Hall.

Before you can connect you must have a network card installed:

If you do not know if you have a network card installed, look at the back of your computer. If you have a plug that appears to be a larger version of a phone jack (usually with a couple of lights next to it) then you are all set. If not, then you will need to purchase a network card from any computer store or the bookstore. Installation instructions are usually included with the network card, or you can have it installed by a computer repair shop for a fee.

Once you have your network card installed:

  • Use the network cable (available free at Dailey hall) to connect your computer to the port in your room
  • Open your Internet browser. You should be directed to the network registration page automatically. If you are not, please go to www.brockport.edu)
  • Register your computer by entering your Brockport NetID and password
  • Restart your computer

We recommend that you:

  • Do your windows updates and office updates.
  • Use a surge protector.
  • Install virus protection software (McAfee or Norton and keep it updated).

If you have any problems, please, read the advanced instructions or call ResNet at x2597.

Campus wireless network (available in all academic buildings):

  • To connect to the wireless network you must have a wireless network card.
  • The network name is Brockport.
