Through the Fire: Determining Perimortem Trauma in Fire-affected Bone

Forensic anthropologists use skeletal evidence to evaluate trauma leading to death. Sometimes skeletal evidence has been subjected to fire in an effort to dispose of the body. Using the domestic pig (Sus scrofa) as a model, an experiment was conducted to determine the nature of perimortem trauma inflicted on the ribbones, from cremated remains.
