This paper will focus on newspaper accounts of the Civil War published in the Staunton Spectator of Augusta County, Va. It will examine how press accounts in this paper differed from those in the Northern press of the time, represented by the New York Times. And it will explore the Staunton Spectator's affect on the areas soldiers and civilians during the worst war America has even seen.
