Due to the growth of email, instant messaging, and text messaging, Standard English grammar is currently undergoing a momumental transformation. At the same time, a resurgence of the popularity of grammar handbooks is stunning the publishing industry, and websites devoted to proper English grammar number in the tens of thousands. This presentation will examine some of the recent, popular grammar guidebooks, discuss why punctuation is suddenly a hot topic, and examine some aspects of Standard English grammar that may have already succumbed to "computerese."
