Sexual Assault: Scope of the Problem for College Campuses

The current literature indicates that college women are at risk for sexual assault with 1 out of 4 women experiencing sexual assault while in college. College men are also victims of sexual assault. Surveys have found that two-thirds of students have been sexually assaulted regardless of gender and one-third experienced physical harassment. The purpose of our research is to provide an analysis of college sexual assault statistics and to identify the factors that potentially contribute to an unsafe environment in the university setting. Our review of college sexual assault is not limited to the victim, but the perpertrators as well. We intend to use this information to plan a sexual assault prevention program on our campus.
