Kavanaugh will present a lecture demonstration in response to her participation in the Urban Bush Women (UBW) Summer Institute 2006, held in Brooklyn, New York. The fourteen day workshop open to the community, attracted individuals identifying themselves as artists and activists in support of political, environmental and social change through education and cultural awareness. The Institute entitled Place Matters culminated with an evening length performance at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. The performance included song, dance, drumming, spoken word and projected photographs reflecting the collaborative work of seventy articulately expressive individuals. In 2007 Kavanaugh reconstructed a work from Place Matters entitled "Sincerely, Katrina Jones", choreographed by UBW company member Millicent Johnnie. In reconstructing the piece Kavanaugh recognizes the significance of the original castís identity while she coaches an entirely new cast to perform the work. The Brockport cast will speak to their experience regarding the reconstruction process.
