Allegory and Avatars: Human Identity Through Animal Character

Student Meghan O'Connor will present on the current series of paintings that are part of her Honor's Thesis. With influences ranging from artists such as Paula Rego to children's book illustration, her work depicts symbolic animal, plant and human figures in dream-like narratives. Using herself as a model and then identifying herself with both plant and animal "'stand-ins", her work explores issues of self-protection, self-trust, and intuition, and the part of our human nature which is closer to our instinctual or "animal" selves.
