Rhythm Tap Classic Works

Visiting Professor of Dance Bill Evans and adjunst instructor Courtney World, rhythm tap artists, will present a suite of classic rhythm tap pieces created by African American tap artists of the first two generations of this American performing art form. These pieces have served as models of rhythmic invention, personalized style and effective form for subsequent generations of tap artsts over the decades and throughout the world. Evans and World will perform pieces by: Bill "Bojangles" Robinson, James "Buster" Brown, Eddie Brown, Leon Collins, Charle "Honi" Coles and Cholly Atkins. They will speak briefly about each artist before sharing his work. They will also perform improvisations based on phrases extracted from classic works. Session will end with a questions and answers session.
