The objective of this study is to conduct a needs assessment to identify key elements needed for a summer transition program for academically at risk eighth graders transitioning to the high school. This project will identify key elements by administering a mailed, needs survey to academically at risk eighth graders attending the Merton Williams Middle School located in Hilton NY. This will allow the investigator to identify the academic, social/emotional, and programmatic needs of the students identified to participate in a summer transition program. A second needs survey will be distributed to eighth grade core class teachers in Merton Williams School, to investigate what they see as the academic, social/emotional, and programmatic needs and challenges that the academically at risk eighth grade students face.
