Evangeline: A Study of Longfellow’s Fictional Poem and its Historical Relevance to French-Speaking Acadians

An overview of Longfellow’s poem, a beautifully tragic story of Evangeline and Gabriel, lovers separated the morning of their wedding day by the Great Upheaval, or the Acadian Expulsion (known as Le Grand Dérangement in French)—the forced deportation of thousands of Canadians from Nova Scotia by the British army from 1755-1763.
