What is Scholars Day?

The College at Brockport’s Scholars Day was instituted in 1984 through the efforts of the College Senate. Scholars Day has continued as a celebration of scholarly pursuits by the campus community.

Scholars Day has several purposes:

to publicize research, including methodologies and conclusions;
to share new ideas and concepts;
to expand knowledge;
to provide an opportunity to socialize with members of the campus community outside of one’s own department.

This is our 26^th year of celebrating scholarship on our campus!

The first Scholars Day on April 24, 1984 had a total of 66 presentations and 6 poster sessions made by 66 faculty/staff (and no students).

Scholars Day 2009 will have 227 presentations/poster sessions made by a total of 409 students/faculty/staff (355 students and 54 faculty/staff) with an additional 65 faculty/staff participating as sessions chairs but not presenting. An impressive growth!

Scholars Day presentations begin a 9 am and continue until 4:45 pm on the main Brockport campus. We are excited that for the fourth year we will also be sponsoring Scholars Night at our downtown MetroCenter from 6-7:30 pm that day. Classes are suspended during these times so that the entire campus community can participate.

Scholars Day Schedule of Events

On the Brockport campus
Session I	9 – 10:30 am
Session II	10:45 – 11:45 am
Lunch Break	noon – 1 pm
Session III	1:15 – 2:15 pm
Session IV	2:30 – 3:30 pm
Session V	3:45 – 4:45 pm
At MetroCenter in downtown Rochester
Session VI	6 - 7:30 pm
Sessions are free and open to the public.

A Scholars Day Abstract Book with a description of each of the presentations can be obtained by calling the number above after April 1.

A limited number of abstract books will also be available in the lobby of Edwards Hall, Hartwell Hall and the MetroCenter on Scholars Day.
