In the United States, there are laws that govern the ways in which our flag can be “treated.” One of the most controversial uses of the American flag is its use in art. In the past, the flag has been displayed in numerous exhibits, some more controversial than others. Nicole examines the legality and opinions behind the flag’s different appearances in the world of art using flag statutes and Supreme Court doctrine involving freedom of expression.
