Highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFAs) play an important role in fish survival, development, growth, and reproduction. The objective of this experiment will be to evaluate the effectiveness of HUFAs on lake trout alevins. Four diets will be offered to lake trout alevins after yolk sac resorption: diet 1, Artemia sp. nauplii; diet 2, Artemia sp. nauplii enriched with SELCO (200 mg/g HUFA); diet 3, Artemia sp. nauplii enriched with Super-SELCO (400 mg/g HUFA); and diet 4, dry diet. After 8 weeks, growth rate, survival, and fatty acid profiles will be compared among groups. Results from this study will contribute to understanding the role of HUFAs in lake trout development. This research proposal will serve as the basis for my MS thesis.
