Safety Awareness in an Urban Setting

Safety awareness is often a second-thought, sometimes ignored until you become a victim of crime. Attending college in a downtown location raises several issues of personal/property safety –parking, panhandling, walking to and from your vehicle, vehicle break-ins, security guard escort and reporting crime and/or criminal activity. This presentation will explore safety tips, things you can do to increase your safety awareness, and ways to enhance your sense of safety while attending classes at The College at Brockport MetroCenter. In addition, we will have a panel including some members of MetroCenter Safety Task Force, exploring initiatives by MetroCenter staff to raise safety awareness, increase police and Red Shirts patrol around the building, and what role users of the MetroCenter can play in building a safe community/environment around the MetroCenter.
