An x-ray diffractometer was used in the study of a thin film of cobalt on a sample of magnesium oxide. The sample was found to have four cubic lattice parameters. These correspond to 4.21±0.01Å (MgO), 3.42±0.01Å (Co), 8.16±0.01Å (hydrated MgO), 6.66±0.01Å (unknown). The manner in which to find the lattice parameters was proven through the verification of an “unknown” salt sample.
