This paper presentation will examine the rights of gays and lesbians to adopt in the United States. Adoption laws in each of the fifty states will be examined. The presentation will look at patterns that emerge and anomalies that arise. The presentation will end with a discussion about what would have to be done to ensure that the laws in all states meet the National Association of Social Workers's standards. These standards include acceptance of diversity and a person's right to make decision for themselves.
