Gender Fluidity as a Weapon in "Tracks”

This paper discusses gender fluidity in Louise Erdrich’s novel "Tracks". It combines research about traditional Anishinabe gender roles, the information about the relation between the U.S. government and Anishinabe land ownership, and feminist theory regarding gender performance to explore the ways in which female characters in Erdrich’s novel use gender fluidity as a weapon against white, Western encroachment.
