Necessary factors that influence fundraising at YMCA’s were sought. A five-point Likert-scale survey containing 15 different factors that could possibly influence a fundraising campaign was mailed to 50 YMCA executive directors within New York State and the state of Connecticut. The return of 20 of 50 surveys resulted in a 40% return rate. Differences with regards to the Likert-scale items of agreement/disagreement were found between the following fundraising factors: quality of mailing service to donors, education level of fundraiser, exciting new programs, and new facilities. Overall, the three fundraising factors that were found to be most important were communication with donors, differentiation from other non-profits and volunteer support.
