Safe Sound--Planning a Concert That Electrifies Our Souls Without Damaging Our Ears

Currently, noise-induced hearing loss is an epidemic in the United States. Many concerts expose audiences to sound levels that have been shown to permanently damage human ears. Some assume or assert that such hazardous levels are necessary to engender an effective audience experience. Others may intend to play at safe levels but unknowingly cross the line into the hazardous zone. The presenter, a Brockport dance musician works with the choreographers and directors of a dance production at the college in a process that ensures audiological safety, while maintaining, and possibly even enhances artistic integrity.
