BRAINS The Development of a Web-based Alumni Information System

The Brockport Alumni Information System (BRAINS) is a web-based system that enables alumni to register their interests in helping current students with their job search. BRAINS is a redesign of an old alumni database system currently in use by Career Services. Development of BRAINS began in Fall 2009, with an expected completion date of May 2010. It is a collaborative effort between Career Services, Web Services and CSC departments. BRAINS is being implemented with a PHP front-end and a MySQL back-end database. It uses the Model-View-Controller architecture embedded in the CakePHP framework to achieve separation between the business logic and the GUI display code. BRAINS collects information about alumni education and employment history and records the ways in which they can assist current students. It provides a sophisticated search mechanism for current students to locate appropriate alumni. It also assists the Career Services to keep better track of our alumni.
