Healthy People 2010 calls for an 11% reduction in deaths caused by melanoma. Melanoma can be prevented by using sunscreen and avoiding exposure to the sun. Eighty-two percent of students at the College at Brockport campus report not wearing sunscreen consistently. During the Fall of 2010, S.U.N. Safety- Shield Us Now!, was implemented to increase students’ awareness and perceived risk regarding melanoma and to increase students’ intentions to use sunscreen. A quasi experimental, pre-post design was used to evaluate the program’s effectiveness. Results of the program and recommendations for future programming will be discussed.
