This paper shows that British perspectives varied during the American Revolution. Perspectives varied depending upon their social stratum within society and their political philosophy. Their view on the necessity and proper course of the conflict varied greatly as the course of the war proceeded. The British intellectual elite, members of the North Government, politicians, and the general public all had differing opinions between each other and in some cases within their groups. The British view of the American Revolution is complicated and diffuse.
