This presentation will share the researcher's work on the sex work industry. She has done in person video interviews with strippers from the Western NY area on their experiences in the industry. One in particular is the female manager of the Mirage in Rochester, NY. In her presentation she highlights the dangers of this work and why Social Workers need to acknowledge this population. She also takes a Women's Studies perspective into the research and explores the feminist element and the third wave. The presenter hopes to turn this research and video footage into a documentary. The research is aimed at protecting the rights of women, and to get under the veil of a clandestine industry. If we do not know the issues, how as Social Workers can we efficiently apply the services needed? The Red Umbrella is the symbol for sex workers. Hence the title for this presentation.
