In recent years, the number of college students with autism has increased. College communities need to increase their awareness of students with autism because their communication and behaviors are often misinterpreted due to their uniqueness. This could potentially lead the students to feel disconnected from their college communities. The presenter's goal is to increase awareness at Brockport so that everyone, including students with autism can enjoy the college experience. To accomplish this the presentation will address: (1) understanding the characteristics of college-age students with autism, (2) their unique needs to be connected to others in the college community, and (3) some tips to make them feel included. The presentation will include some activities and discussion among audience members to make Brockport more inclusive for all.
