The researcher will discuss incorporating African asethetics into Modern dance including: a) explaining the history, asethetics, and cultural background of African and Modern dance; b) extracting the similarities between both African and Modern dance; c) discussing how African American choreographers capture both movement asethetics into their choreographies such as Katherine Dunham; and d) sharing her dancers' experience working with her, as well as her own experiences going through the process of choreographing a dance that fuses African asethetics into modern or contemporary dance.
