Body image as presented in American media has changed drastically over time, and the accuracy of portrayals has been brought under serious scrutiny. The effects of particular advertisements have been deemed incredibly harmful to the psychological, physical, and emotional development of young women. The subtle and sometimes not-so subtle messages are becoming more prevalent, are being directly as well as indirectly linked to eating disorders, violence against women, and a distorted perception of the real meaning of 'beauty'.
