While green energy and the obesity epidemic have been buzzwords for over a decade, progress to find solutions has been slow. The Human Power Project is a novel idea that can serve as part of the solution to both the energy and obesity problem. The system works by convering energy from exercise into electricity that can then be used in the home or sent back into the electrical grid. The ultimate goal is to make a cheap and modular system that can be retrofitted onto existing machines in home or at the gym. What sets the project apart is its emphasis on the social aspects of exercise, urging people to exercise more by allowing them to join teams and compete with one another. This presentation will focus on the data logging, data administration, and social networking aspects of the project.
