Students and Special Effects: The Story Behind Subject 8

The Communication Department at the College has branched out to a new sector in the field of Media Production, that being the Special Effects we love to see in big-budget Hollywood movies. Students in a new class, Motion Graphics I, learned in the Fall of 2012 how to create animated motion backgrounds, as well as animate photo's to create the illusion of 3D. The Students of the class loved the challenge working with motion graphics gave them, so much that a select group chose to come back to school early in Winter 2013 for Motion Graphics II. This advanced session was a crash course in time mapping, basic animation, and 3D generation of weather elements such as fire, smoke and lightning. The culmination of the collaborative effort the students put in during the two week period is the 5 minute short film "Subject 8".
