Cultural theorist Arjun Appadurai discusses the imagined community and how we connect to our surroundings in his book Modernity at Large: Cultural Dimensions of Globalization. How as artists can the imagination function as an anchor to reality and the development of self as well as the creative process? The power of suggestion can influence behavioral patterns and create an environment of possibility. Anna Halprin’s concept of “Trance Dance” and an authentic movement practice may be the key to internalizing the individual imagined identity.
