This presentation focuses on Brockport students’ involvement in the College’s 2012 International Study Aboard Program in Greece and Turkey. The Summer Program centered on ancient and modern links between food and culture and was faculty-led by Christine Zinni in conjunction with the Athens Centre and hosts on three Greek islands and Turkey. Participants in the program became actively engaged in the process of their own learning through dialogue, interactions, and interview sessions with local residents in Greece and Turkey. Another way, they were able to exercise their creative talents was through the initiation of an internet site where they posted journal entries and documented their activities and encounters. These experiences not only deepened students’ understanding of the politics of food and culture in the Aegean and renewed interest in researching this area of study, but has lead to on-going communication and interchange with many of the peoples they met on their journey.
