In the time it takes for a kid to lick an entire jar full of mayonnaise (which happened in the second-season premiere), the wildly popular TLC reality show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo’’ has emerged as must-see train-wreck TV” by Andrea Peyser in the New York Post. Honey Boo Boo is but one of hundreds of the so-called “reality” television genera, including but not limited to Toddlers and Tiaras, 16 and Pregnant, The Amish Mafia, and Shawty Lo’s, All My Babies Mama’s which was canceled by the Oxygen network after a hostile public reaction. Are these shows dysfunctional and potentially lethal to our culture or are they just plain fun? What does the media have to say?
