Assuming that a worker’s performance is the product of their attitude and ability, this submission presents a framework of leadership that distinguishes the roles of managers from leaders, and how those roles affect the attitudes and behaviors of workers. In this framework, we identify the “coach” role as the transactional force in motivating worker behaviors; and we identify the “counselor” role as the transformational force that inspires worker attitudes.
