This presentation explores the co-occurrence of Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) with Substance Use Disorder (SUD). It delves into the common symptomology associated with ADHD and how those behaviors can contribute to, or encourage, a substance use disorder. Various treatment modalities are explored, such as the role of stimulant and non-stimulant medication, versus non pharmacological treatment interventions, and how each treatment modality affects the outcome regarding recovery or abstinence from substance use or abuse. Finally, the presentation examines how behavioral interventions can impact both the symptoms of ADHD and SUD and special considerations for treating this dually-diagnosed population.
