The presenters are current and former students in Dr. Jennifer Ashton’s EDI 413/513 Introduction to Special Education. They will discuss the TIES@Brockport service learning project completed in class in the Fall 2013 and Spring 2014 semesters. Over the course of the semesters, the students worked collaboratively to create, organize, and implement a multi-session on-campus program for individuals with developmental disabilities. The students received training and support from representatives of Together Including Every Student (TIES), a program of The Advocacy Center of Rochester, NY. TIES is a community-based program that promotes the participation of students with developmental disabilities in extracurricular and community activities. The presenters will discuss their efforts in planning and implementing the program, while sharing personal stories and experiences with the service learning project.
