Anchorwoman: The Legend of Male Dominance and Objectification

This presentation explores the sexualization of female newscasters and the male dominance that is evident in the news industry. It also considers the way women are affected by this environment and societal construct. The presenter will give a brief overview of early influential female newscasters and changes in the industry. The presentation will be to show that women are constantly sexualized and presented as objects. Women are pressured to use their appearance in order to gain an edge in the workplace. Relevant examples will be provided of how anchorwomen are judged more on their appearance rather than their ability to present the news.
