West Goes East-A Kabuki A Midsummer Night's Dream

Many similarities can be found in the samurai society represented in Kabuki drama and that of sixteenth century England as represented in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” This presentation demonstrates the ways in which they are similar; how the conventions of the Japanese theatre style offer solutions to technical problems in the piece; and ways in which this production may enhance audience understanding.
