Rockefeller Drug Laws

The Rockefeller Drug Laws require harsh prison terms for the possession or sale of relatively small amounts of drugs. These laws have been the subject of intense criticism for years. On Dec 14, 2004 Governor Pataki signed into law the Rockefeller Drug Law Reform bill. This legislation makes several significant changes that affect sentencing in drug cases as well as those already serving sentences for drug convictions. These changes will affect both release dates and the method of release. This reform will have profound effects within the judicial system as well as our own communities.
