Automation of Library Purchase Order System

The existing library purchase order system is based on filing a purchase request on a yellow card that gets stored in a library box drawer. The related library activities to purchase the item(s) described in a yellow card include: validation of the order, finding a source for item acquisition from various (online) catalogs, and maintaining the status of the order on a yellow card. Since yellow cards do not have currently an electronic form, while the catalogs, and other resources that the library uses for processing a yellow card are computer based, much labor gets wasted on frequent manipulations of a physical yellow card. We present a model of existing purchase order system and a model of a new purchase order system, where computer based library system manages yellow card images and the library purchasing process. We explain how object-oriented models get implemented using HTML, PHP, and SQL.
