Claiming a Piece of Mr. B.: Putting Ourselves into Balanchine's Choreographic Innovations

Because of the great success that Russian-born choreographer, George Balanchine, experienced in the United States, Americans tend to claim influence over his creativity. This paper, however, explores how Balanchine's early influences in Russia, not the United States, impacted his choreography.
