Mechanical Models for Mass Movements

Two mechanical models for mass movements are described in this paper: a static model for analyzing the slope instability and a dynamical model for the slope profile development. Driving forces, resisting forces and parameters that influence the factor of safety are discussed for the first model and the equations of motion are given for the second one. Numerical simulations are performed in order to illustrate the mathematical models that have been considered.
