Scholars Day 2005, Wednesday, April 13

Student Tips For Staying Healthy On Campus

This program will discuss the many challenges college students face in making healthy dining and activity choices during fast paced demanding days. Practical suggestions will be made on a variety of topics including popular fad diets (i.e. Atkins, South Beach, and The Zone), fitting in a workout, stress management, and making the most out of college dining halls and campus eateries. In this presentation, an examination of contemporary evidence will be combined with practical strategies. When food and activity choices are limited, or perceived to be limited, it is often difficult to make the optimal choice for nourishing the body. This presentation will provide students with a basic understanding of maintaining a diet that is properly balanced on and off campus. This presentation will also provide insight into the importance of adequate sleep and stress management, both of which are crucial to positive health. Advisor: Dr. Justin Laird
