Grassland Bird Nest Predation and Artificial Nest Use

This presenter is conducting an experimental analysis of how vegetation characteristics and field area affect rates of predation on artificial grassland bird nests baited with House Sparrow (Passer domesticus) eggs at Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge (INWR). In this presentation the following will be discussed: 1. Value of artificial nesting studies 2. Problems with artificial nest studies 3. How the study is designed to minimize problems 4. How the results of this study will be used to manage for increased nesting productivity of grassland birds, which are declining in the Northeast.
