Scholarships and Awards for
Current SUNY Brockport Students

Application forms for the following scholarships and awards are usually available from the Scholarship Office in early October. Unless otherwise noted, applications are due completed in the middle of December. More specific information is available on the application forms.

Brockport Alumni Association Awards
Current Student Award I

Available to: Full-time undergraduate or graduate students

Value: $2,000, awarded half per semester for two semesters

Requirements: Students are evaluated on the following criteria:

  • Scholastic achievement (minimum 3.25 GPA)
  • Co-curricular activity
  • Community service
  • Typed application (handwritten application will not be accepted)
  • Two letters of recommendation attached to the application
  • Statement of support of your application
  • Evaluation of personal interview (if requested by Committee)

Applications are available in the Financial Aid Office or Office of Alumni Relations.

Available to: Matriculated; full or part-time; must have completed a minimum of 9 credits in the program.

Value: $2,000 awarded $1,000 per semester for two semesters. Distribution begins during the fall semester following notification and continues until the award has been paid in full, provided the candidate continues to meet the published eligibility criteria for said a ward throughout the disbursement period. Awards are applied to the recipient's college bill by the Bursar's Office.

Brockport College Memorial Scholarship

Available to: Enrolled sophomore or junior

Value: Tuition credits, during the fall and spring semesters following selection

Requirements:

  • An overall GPA of 3.25 or higher
  • Documentation of service to others
  • Evidence of pride in the College and community

Interdisciplinary Award in Mathematics

Available to: a freshman or sophomore at SUNY Brockport who shows an interest in the applicable nature of mathematics as an interdisciplinary tool

Value: Tuition credits, during the fall and spring semesters following selection

Requirements:

  • Must have completed at least two mathematics courses at SUNY Brockport by the end of the semester that the award is given.
  • Must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher at SUNY Brockport, as well as a GPA of 3.0 or higher in all MTH courses taken at Brockport.
  • Students must write one paragraph expressing the reasons for their interest in the applicable nature of mathematics and provide signatures of support from two mathematics instructors (as per instructions on the application form).

The Lathan H. and Alyce M. Lampen Award

Available to: an undergraduate student whose leadership and service to others on campus or within the SUNY Brockport community reflects the promotion and development of values, particularly those spiritual, ethical and religious values essential to individual dignity and a humane society.

Value: Tuition credits, during the fall and spring semesters following selection

Requirements:

  • Completed one full year with 30 credits
  • Plans to continue at SUNY Brockport
  • Grade point average of 3.0 in major
  • Record of involvement in service and helping others, such as helping fellow students, working with youth in challenging them to live up to their potential, and/or sponsoring special projects to alleviate human suffering
  • Two letters of recommendation from non-family members giving knowledge of the candidate's leadership and service to others, his or her ability to promote and develop values essential to individual dignity, and the applicant's ability to maintain a positive, constructive outlook on life.
  • A personal statement that summarizes his or her career goals and qualifications for the award.

Ora Van Slyke Award

Available to: a junior or senior at SUNY Brockport

Value: Tuition credits, during the fall and spring semesters following selection

Requirements:

  • Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.75 (3.25+ preferred) and at least one additional semester at Brockport before graduation.
  • Applicants must provide information and/or documentation of how they have used the creative arts toward meeting their education or career goals.

The Samuel and Elizabeth Manno Award

Available to: an undergraduate student who is in good standing, exemplifies good character, demonstrates concern for the welfare of others and a dedication to his/her field of study

Value: Tuition credits, during the fall and spring semesters following selection

Requirements: Candidates must have completed one full year (30 credits) at SUNY Brockport with a 3.0 minimum GPA. The student selected to receive this award must:

  • Be in good academic standing
  • Exemplify good character
  • Have demonstrated concern for others
  • Have evidenced commitment to their chosen field of study
  • Illustrate their career goals and objectives and how they will make a contribution professionally and as a citizen.

Sara T. Jackson Award

Available to: an exemplary student who has successfully completed his/her freshman year at SUNY Brockport; is completing his/her sophomore year at Brockport; and plans to continue his/her education as a junior at the College.

Value: Tuition credits, during the fall and spring semesters following selection

Requirements: Must be a student in good standing (minimum grade point average of 3.0). Must currently have sophomore status with 25-53 credits completed. Must show evidence of:

  • High moral character
  • Scholastic achievement
  • Some degree of involvement and participation in activities that serve and enhance the College-community

Enterprise Rent-A-Car Scholarship

Available to: An outstanding current junior attending SUNY Brockport, to be awarded in the senior year. This scholarship will be granted to a minority student who most closely mirrors the values and characteristics that exemplify Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Value: $1,500 educational expense grant during the fall and spring semesters following selection.

Requirements:

  • Be a minority student enrolled in their junior year at SUNY Brockport at the time of application.
  • Be a resident of New York State.
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Provide examples of leadership (academic and/or extracurricular)
  • Indicate the percentage of their education that is self-funded and how the funds were earned.
  • Provide a listing of employment, school and community related extracurricular activities in which he/she has been involved. Include a listing of any awards and recognition, including academic achievement.
  • Attach a typewritten, one page essay entitled "Why I Am An Enterprising Person". This essay should demonstrate how the candidate embodies the spirit and culture of Enterprise Rent-A-Car's successful workforce. The candidate should use the following characteristics in their essay: Personable Nature, Competitive Fire and Successful Entrepreneurs

Newman Scholarships

Available to: Full-time undergraduate students, entering their junior or senior year of study.

Value: Tuition credits.

Requirements:

  • An overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Accepted in the Department of Education and Human Development Teacher Certification Programs, Early Childhood, Childhood or Adolescence.
  • Have demonstrated a commitment to the teaching profession.
  • Active Roman Catholic.
  • Involved in volunteer work.

Class of 1953 Scholarship

Available to: Full-time or part-time (6 credits a semester minimum) matriculated undergraduate students.

Value: Tuition credits, during the fall and spring semesters following selection.

Requirements:

  • An overall cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Accepted into one of the College's teacher certification programs.
  • Have demonstrated a commitment to and potential for excellence in a teaching career.
  • Involved in volunteer work.

BASC Scholarships

Scholarship Eligibility

To be eligible for either award, individuals must be a full-time student at SUNY Brockport with at least one year of work experience with BASC. In addition, the student must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better.

Barnes & Noble College Bookstore Community Service Award

This award recognizes a BASC student employee who has demonstrated high scholastic achievement, leadership in the workplace, and outstanding service to the community.

Criteria:

  • Must have broad community service and/or campus involvement. Community service may include volunteering for nursing homes, schools, athletic organizations, volunteer fire/ambulance, etc.
  • Demonstrates leadership ability
  • Is reliable
  • Works well within a diverse environment
  • Takes initiative Is customer oriented
  • Gets along well with fellow employees

AVI Vending Award

This award promotes a student's commitment to excellence. This award is given to a BASC student employee who demonstrates high scholastic performance while providing leadership in the workplace through dedication, customer service, and commitment to the work ethic.

Criteria:

  • Has made significant contributions to BASC
  • Demonstrates leadership ability
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills
  • Produces high quality work
  • Takes initiative
  • Demonstrates a pleasant disposition with fellow employees and customers
  • Is customer oriented
  • Adaptable to all circumstances

Nominations

Each fall semester, notices regarding the awards are distributed to all BASC employees (including deadline date for submissions.) Scholarship winners are notified in the spring semester, and participate in the campus's annual awards ceremony on Scholar's Day.

Nominations may be made by fellow BASC staff members (i.e. full-time, part-time, student, or management) or by self-nomination. Self nominations should have at least one supporting letter. Nominations should be in the form of a letter, and are to be submitted to the BASC Administrative Office, Attn: BASC Student Award Team.
