Maurice J. Moss Fine Arts Award

Awarded to a student who is enrolled or planning to enroll in the fine arts curriculum at SUNY Brockport. May be full time or part time, if part-time status is due to extenuating circumstances, such as professional responsibilities as a practicing artist.

William Stewart Award in Visual Arts

Recognizes a currently enrolled graduate student for demonstrating integrity, collegiality, enthusiasm and dedication in art.

Computational Math, Science and Technology (CMST) Scholarship Program

The National Science Foundation provides a grant in support of the math and science partnership between SUNY Brockport and the Rochester City School District. The scholarship is for students majoring in computational science, including students pursuing teacher certification.

Joseph R. Kandor Award of Excellence

 Sponsored by Nu Chapter of Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International, SUNY Brockport. The purpose of the award is to recognize academic excellence and counseling potential of a matriculated master's degree student in the Department of Counselor Education. Award includes one year's membership in Nu Chapter and the national Chi Sigma Iota.

Friars Foundation Scholarship

Available to a graduate student in dance who has completed one semester of study at SUNY Brockport (minimum nine credits) with at least a 3.0 GPA. Selection based on talent and achievement in dance.

Pylyshenko-Strasser Graduate Dance Award

Awarded to a matriculated student in the Master of Arts program in dance. Student must have completed at least nine credits of study in the program.

George and Mary Bauer Awards (two grants annually)

The first award recognizes a married student who demonstrates a commitment to the field of elementary or secondary education and maintains good academic standing. The second award honors a student who has completed at least one semester of study at SUNY Brockport and is pursuing N-6 teacher certification with a demonstrated strong interest in early childhood education (N-grade 3).

Bessie Walker Browne Award

Recognizes a currently enrolled student in a teacher certification program in the Department of Education and Human Development. Must have completed Developmental Reading Instruction and Diagnostic Reading Instruction courses at SUNY Brockport. Must have demonstrated promise as an excellent classroom teacher of reading. Must be recommended for this award by two or more instructors in the Department of Education and Human Development.

Blaine M. Delancey Award for Teaching Excellence in Secondary School English

Awarded to a provisionally certified high school teacher of Secondary English, grades 7-12, currently employed as a secondary English teacher, matriculated in Master of Science in Education: Secondary English program.

Cyril and Gertrude Stanton Hare Award

Awarded to a currently enrolled graduate student from the Greece, NY, community with a strong academic background with a GPA of at least 3.25.

Frances Moroney-Whited Reading Award

Teacher education elementary certification program in the Department of Education and Human Development. Academic excellence as judged by instructors and Departmental Award Committee. Recommendation by at least one reading faculty member and/or language arts instructor of the Methods Course.

Gerald L. Browne Award

Awarded to a supervising teacher currently in an elementary Greece Central School, graduate of SUNY Brockport, or taking or has taken courses through Brockport.

Josephine F. Mannix Award

Recognizes an outstanding graduate student in elementary education who has a strong academic record and has demonstrated excellent potential for success in teaching.

Lee Cowles Masters Award

Recognizes a student whose performance as a student teacher at the primary level (N-5) exemplifies exceptional sensitivity, a creative ability, and a commitment for teaching young children.

Reading Educator Emeriti Fund

Established by emeriti of the Department of Education and Human Development, the fund provides two awards. The Reading Educator Emeriti Scholarshiprecognizes a student who has been accepted as a first-semester graduate student in the Literacy Teacher Certification Program. The Reading Educator Emeriti Award recognizes a graduate of the Reading Education/Literacy Program. Both awards recognize students who have demonstrated a commitment to a career in literacy education.

Ross M. Coxe Memorial Award

Awarded to a student who has received a baccalaureate degree from SUNY Brockport, is matriculated in the master of science in education program with emphasis in elementary education, and has completed at least 12 graduate credits toward degree at the time the award is presented.

Roy Bubb Award

Awarded to a student who is currently employed in one of SUNY Brockport's Teacher's Centers and collaborates with the Department of Education and Human Development.

Blaine M. Delancey Memorial Award

Awarded to a declared undergraduate or graduate major in the Department of English. Requires submission of an essay on an announced topic following published guidelines.

Calvin Rich/English Club Student Poetry Award

Awarded to a matriculated graduate or undergraduate SUNY Brockport student who has completed a minimum of 12 credits at the College and a 2.0 undergraduate or 3.0 graduate GPA. Applicants must submit 50 – 100 lines of original poetry.

History

George Queen Award in History

Awarded to a full-time undergraduate or graduate history major for the best essay on a topic or range of topics determined and announced annually.

Flieger Family Graduate History Award

Awarded to an entering graduate student in history enrolled for a minimum of nine credits per semester. Donor prefers that the recipient be a SUNY Brockport alumna or alumnus. Application by letter.

Mathematics and Computer Science

Brockport Mathematics and Computer Science (BMACS) Scholarship Program

Eligibility Criteria for BMACS Scholarship:

  • Must be matriculated at SUNY College at Brockport as a full-time (minimum of 12 hours for an undergraduate and 9 hours for a graduate) student majoring in mathematics or computer science.
  • Must have completed a minimum of 55 credit hours if an undergraduate student (no previous graduate course work required for graduate students).
  • Must establish financial need — defined for undergraduate students by the US Department of Education rules for need-based federal financial aid. Or, for graduate students, defined as financial eligibility for Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GANN). An approved FAFSA form can be used to determine eligibility.
  • Must be a US citizen, national, refugee alien or permanent resident alien at time of application.
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 in both major and total cumulative college course work, or a GPA of 3.2 in both major and college course work during the last two semesters.

Recreation and Leisure

Christine Z. Howe Scholarship

Awarded to a part- or full-time graduate student in recreation and leisure studies. Presented annually by the Genesee Valley Recreation and Park Society. Award amount determined by Genesee Valley Recreation and Park Society.

Martin H. Rogers Award

Recognizes graduate students who have demonstrated high academic achievement; service to others; dedication to a career in park recreation, leisure, or therapeutic recreation services; and a commitment to completing the master's degree.

Social Work

Kathy J. McGrath Scholarship

Awarded to a student who has been accepted in the social work program at either the undergraduate or graduate level. Undergraduates must have completed two years of study in the social work program with a GPA of 3.0 or higher and demonstrate student financial need.

Alumni Scholarships

The Brockport Alumni Association awards a number of scholarships annually. Any matriculated graduate student in an approved curriculum is eligible to apply for these scholarships which are one-time awards presented during the annual Honors and Awards Ceremony program each spring. Brockport Alumni Association Graduate Awards

Matriculated graduate students, who have completed at least 9 credits, are eligible for this award.

General Scholarships

Anne and Lynn Parsons Graduate Scholarship Fund

This award provides full tuition to an entering graduate student in any graduate program at the College. Candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Brockport (minimum 56 credits must have been completed while at the College) with at least a 3.0 GPA. Must submit a signed personal statement of no more than 500 words, describing background, future plans and why he/she is deserving of the scholarship.

Private Scholarships and Awards

The Scholarship Office will assist with the application process for private scholarships wherever possible. Students seek these scholarships on their own or by using the Scholarship Resource Center or the Scholarship Office Web site, and awards are made by the agency offering the scholarship or award.

Locally determined scholarships and awards are publicized on a regular basis. Need and academic competence may be determining factors for selection. You should have a FAFSA on file in the Financial Aid Office if you desire to be considered for a national or local grant or non-monetary award that is based on financial need.

Fellowships and Assistantships

Many departments offer fellowships and assistantships. These may include an employment component. Graduate students applying for assistantships or fellowships must be matriculated upon entry to SUNY Brockport and must complete a TAP application or submit an affidavit attesting to their ineligibility. The assistant's or fellow's responsibilities do not ordinarily require more than an average of 15 hours per week.

Minority Graduate Fellowships

A limited number of fellowships are available to full-time, matriculated graduate students who are of African-American, Hispanic, or Native-American descent and are US citizens or US permanent residents. They carry a stipend and tuition waiver equivalent to the graduate in-state rate. Applications may be obtained from the Office of Graduate Studies, (585) 395-2525.

Monroe County Historian's Office

The Graduate Assistantship in Local History is awarded to a graduate student taking nine credits per semester. Involves 15 hours per week work in the Monroe County Historian's Office in Rochester, and carries a stipend, plus a tuition scholarship for nine credits per semester and summer. Research Assistantships

Research assistantships are funded by grants and contracts awarded to SUNY Brockport from outside agencies. The responsibility of awarding these research assistantships rests with the project director of the grant or contract. Stipends vary among projects and do not include a waiver of tuition. Students should contact the department in which they wish to pursue their program in order to determine the availability of such awards and eligibility.

Teaching/Graduate Assistantships

Teaching assistantships are matriculated graduate students appointed to such rank upon departmental recommendation and approval of the academic and graduate dean. Appointments for the academic year currently carry a stipend and nine credits of tuition scholarship per semester. Students must be pursuing graduate study on a full-time basis. To apply, students should contact the department chairperson in the area of their degree/ program.
