Sweden Town Park 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Students are needed to paint fences at Sweden Town Park. Sweden Town Park is one of Brockportís larger town parks with several baseball fields, a playground, pond and a skate park. Please wear attire appropriate for outdoor work. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Brockport Ecumenical Emergency Food Shelf 11 am - 5 pm Tuttle North parking lot The Brockport food shelf is in need of a few students to organize and catalog food donations. Light cleaning of the food pantry and bagging items for clients is also needed. The Brockport Ecumenical Food Shelf is the only emergency food shelf in the area and a necessity to many residents in need. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Stepping Stones Learning Center 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North parking lot The Stepping Stones Learning Center is a fully inclusive early childhood program that services children with special needs alongside their typically developing peers. They offer a wide variety of early childhood services. Stepping Stones Learning Center is looking for students to clean, paint, rake, organize and do general maintenance of the school buildings and playgrounds. Please dress for outdoor work. Opening Doors Diversity Project 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Opening Doors Diversity project is located on the Brockport College campus. A small group of students are needed to sort and catalog books, videos and DVDís into an online bibliographic database. Books also need to be labeled and sorted onto shelves. Students need to be comfortable using computers for this volunteer opportunity. Please meet in the listed central location to be directed to your project location.
Arthritis Foundation 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North parking lot The annual MVP Marathon event to benefit the Arthritis Foundation is approaching quickly in September. The Arthritis Foundation is asking for students to help fill goody bags to be given to racers during the marathon event. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Foodlink 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Foodlink is the regional food bank of central and western New York. Foodlink supplies food to emergency food shelves, soup kitchens and shelters. Foodlink is asking students to help sort donated products into categories and to weigh and label the products in the warehouse. It is much easier to distribute the food to those in need once it has been organized. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
The Jewish Home of Rochester 11 am - 3:30 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Jewish Home of Rochester is an assisted living home for seniors. The Jewish Home of Rochester will be having a music program on this day and needs students to help transport the residents to the program. Please wear sneakers. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Town of Clarkson Festival 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Town of Clarkson has a yearly festival, Clarkson Good Neighbor Day. The festival needs students to help park cars, empty trash and staff the silent auction and games. All volunteers will be provided food and drinks at the festival. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Episcopal Church Home 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Episcopal Church Home is senior living community that provides a variety of services from independent living to skilled care. The Episcopal Church Home would like a few volunteers to interact with the residents for awhile. Take a resident for a walk, play a game, participate in bingo or just have a conversation. Also, help cleanup the games and transport the resident back to their room. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Gildaís Club Rochester 11 am - 2:30 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Gildaís Club is an organization that provides support to people living with cancer and their families. Gildaís club will be having a carnival at their clubhouse for families touched by cancer this day. They would like to have volunteers help with setup, serving food, managing the game area, doing crafts, watching children and cleaning up. The event is indoors and attire is casual. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Ogden Parks and Recreation Department 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Ogden Parks needs volunteers to help with several park projects. The skate park equipment needs repainting, weeding, mulching and light landscaping is needed and staining in a few of the park lodges as well. Please wear your work clothes for these projects. The Arc of Monroe County- Project 1 11 am - 5 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Arc of Monroe County is an organization that provides programs and services to individuals and families of individuals with developmental disabilities. The Arc of Monroe is holding a summer bash day and would like students to assist with cooking and serving food and outdoor games. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
The Arc of Monroe County- Project 2 11 am - 5 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Arc of Monroe County is an organization that provides programs and services to individuals and families of individuals with developmental disabilities. A basement storage area is in need of a quick cleaning and reorganizing in the office building of the Arc of Monroe. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Town of Sweden-Highway Department 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Town of Sweden would like several groups of volunteers to help pick up litter at various locations throughout the town. Possible litter sites include canal banks, road sides and retention ponds. Please wear work clothes. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Rochester General Hospital 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Rochester General Hospital is one of the area hospitals. Rochester General would like a group of students to put together therapeutic play kits and craft kits for their pediatric patients. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester is a community of Roman Catholic women supporting and staffing the community, especially in local hospitals and schools. The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester would appreciate a group of volunteers who will work on the grounds. The Sisters of Saint Josephís central location, the motherhouse, is in need of raking, weeding and mulching. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Salvation Station 11 am - 2:30 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Salvation Station is Brockportís local Christian bookstore and Gift shop. The Salvation Station needs students who can help the bookstore get organized. This includes data entry, dusting, light painting and vacuuming. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
The Fairport Music and Food Festival 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Town of Fairport is hosting their annual music and food festival to benefit Golisano Childrenís Hospital. The Festival needs volunteers to help with general set-up, traffic control, cleaning and trash pick-up, t-shirt and beverage sales and volunteer check-in. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Walker Bible Baptist Church 11 am - 2 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Walker Bible Baptist Church is a local church serving the Brockport and Rochester area. The Walker Bible Baptist Church needs a large group of students for indoor and outdoor maintenance and landscaping work. Students are needed to paint a hallway and a retention fence. Also, the parking lot needs some clean up along with a few of the church windows. Please wear outdoor work attire. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum works alongside Adopt-a-Highway to preserve highways and railways. The Railroad Museum is volunteer run and houses full size railroad equipment and locomotives. The museum would like a group of students to assist with highway and railway trash and brush clean up. Adopt-a-Highway requires that volunteers are 18 years old and the museum recommends wearing long pants, boots and work gloves if possible. Monroe Community Hospital 11 am - 3:50 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Monroe Community Hospitalís senior assisted living facility would like student volunteers to transport residents to bingo. Some elderly residents need assistance with bingo and students are needed for this task. Afterwards, students will be responsible for transporting residents back to their rooms. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Swan Library 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Swan Library is the local community library in Albion. Swan library would like students to assist with dusting shelves, organizing books and vacuuming. Many books will need to be taken off the shelves to have the shelves cleaned and then put back in their order. Please dress to do cleaning. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church 11 am - 3:30 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church is a local church in the town of Albion. Volunteers are needed to remove items and boxes from the church attic. Climbing up and down the attic ladder and heavy lifting is needed for this job. These items are being removed for a yard sale at a future date. The church needs help removing these items from the attic because most of the church coordinators are elderly and unable to perform these tasks without assistance. Volunteers will be provided light snacks and beverages. Please wear work clothes appropriate for this task. Step by Step Rochester 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Step by Step assists women who are, have been, or are at risk of being incarcerated to rebuild their lives and the lives of their families through strength-based programming. Step by Step has developed several workshops with various themes: self esteem, survival, relationships and following our dreams. Most of their workshops are driven by stories of other women. They would like students to help rearrange their office space and clean out rooms. Students interested in this project should be comfortable lifting and moving furniture. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Ronald McDonald House 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester provides a home-away-from-home for families who need to be near their children while they are receiving health care in the Rochester area hospitals. Further, it supports the health and well being of children and their families in the broader Rochester community by awarding grants. They would like students to help with the landscaping at their local agency. If there is inclement weather, students will be cleaning inside the building. Please dress for indoor or outdoor cleaning. North Street Community Center 11 am - 5 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The City of Rochester Department of Recreation and Youth Services provides many parks and activity centers for kids and teens to spend time in a fun and safe environment. The North Street Community Center is in need of a group of student volunteers to paint the interior game room and teen lounge. A few volunteers are also needed to clean out storage areas and do light pick up of the Community Center grounds. St. Annís Community 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot St. Annís Community is one of Rochesterís largest assisted living facilities for the elderly. Volunteers are needed at St. Annís to transport residents to and from an activity in the auditorium. Students get to participate in the resident centered activity as well and engage one on one with the resident during a preplanned event. The residents at St. Annís enjoy the company and conversation of volunteers. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Twelve Corner Daycare Center 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Twelve Corner Daycare center is a community daycare serving the Rochester area. Twelve Corner Daycare cares for children from infancy to school age. The daycare center is in need of a group of students to help with cleaning the many floors of the day care center along with the playground and other essential day care equipment. Please dress for outdoor cleaning. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
United Memorial Medical Center 11 am - 3:30 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot United Memorial Medical Center is the only acute care hospital in Genesee County. They are looking for students to do yard work, grounds maintenance and gardening. There is also office filing, moving files, moving office furniture, transferring files and office items to storage space. Please dress for indoor and outdoor work. Students will be required to sign a HIPAA compliance form before participating in this project. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Mary Cariola Children's Center 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Mary Cariola Childrenís Center is a special place in Rochester, NY, that serves children with multiple, complex disabilities; public and private schools arenít able to accommodate these children. They would like students to clean and organize special toys for the children. Also they need students to help prepare for a yard sale by organizing the garage. They need students to re-stain the deck and clean rafters in every room. Lunch will be provided.
Hamlin Town Hall 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The town hall in Hamlin is looking for a group of students to paint a bathroom, railing, doors, etc. They would also like volunteers to do weeding of flower beds. Other projects will be cleaning chairs, washing windows, cleaning sports equipment, organizing craft supplies and cleaning the park. Students will be responsible for shoveling the dirt on the baseball field and for completing some minor paperwork. Please dress for the outdoors. Canandaigua Veteranís Hospital 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North parking lot Part of the mission statement for the Canandaigua Veteranís Hospital is to ďserve and honor the men and women who are Americaís veterans.Ē The hospital would like a group of volunteers to assist in an ice cream party and to play Bingo with the veterans. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Hickok Center 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The mission of the Hickok Center is to provide a safe and supportive environment that encourages brain injury survivors to design and direct their own life's journey. They need students to mail letters for their annual mailing. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Medina Railroad Museum 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Located in the old New York Central freight depot in Medina, NY, the Medina Railroad Museum is the largest freight depot museum in the country. The Medina Railroad Museum needs students to clean display and model railroad tracks in the Museum. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Lifetime Assistance 11 am - 5 pm Tuttle North parking lot Individuals at Lifetime Assistance have a range of developmental disabilities and are a part of the Lifetime Assistance family pursuing independent living skills. Brockport students will visit a Lifetime Assistance residential home and spend one on one time with an individual with a development disability in a relaxed and fun atmosphere. Students will be spending time with the residents playing games, having lunch and participating in a group event or project. One residence is an apartment building where students will do some gardening with the individuals. There are several Lifetime Assistance homes in the area looking for volunteers this day. Students signed up for this opportunity will be split into five groups and transported to their designated Lifetime Assistance home. CP Rochester 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot CP Rochester connects people with physical disabilities to the community. CP Rochester exists to support people with physical and developmental disabilities in choosing and accomplishing successive individualized life goals. They do this by providing outpatient clinical, residential, educational and personal support services. Their purpose is to ensure that those they serve safely determine their own pathways in life and live as full members of their communities. CP Rochester needs a group of students to clean up their residential home for individuals with developmental disabilites. These tasks include window cleaning, garage cleaning and organizing, basement cleaning and organizing and kitchen cabinet cleaning and organizing. Mount Hope Cemetery 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North parking lot Mt. Hope Cemetery is 197 acres of glacially sculpted land, set beside the University of Rochester, having come to contain over 350,000 graves since 1838. Many figures of historical importance, such as Frederick Douglass and family, Isaac and Amy Post, John Jacob Bausch and Henry Lomb, Emily Sibley Watson, Margaret Woodbury Strong, and Reverend Thomas James have been laid to rest within its grounds. Many locals use the public grounds for jogging and biking because of its acres of scenery. The City of Rochester would like Brockport students to clean up the Mount Hope grounds, pick up any litter or debris and possibly do some landscaping. Groups of students will have the opportunity to be led by a tour guide and hear about the history of Mount Hope. Jefferson Avenue Childhood Development Center 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Jefferson Avenue Childhood Development Center offers quality child care and early childhood education programs for children from 6 weeks through 12 years of age. 100% of their families receive subsidized child care, because their incomes fall below poverty but, do not exceed 165% above the poverty level. They offer free scholarships to homeless children. They provide a safe and healthy environment for children to grow. The Jefferson Avenue Childhood Development Center helps build their confidence and strengthen their commitment to their own future through an array of services and programs. August 28th is KIDS DAY and they would like students to help with children's activities such as face painting, t-shirt decorating, bounce houses, frisbee, tug of war, bowling, water tables and the food court. The Northfield Enriched Housing 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Northfield Enriched Housing is a partner of the Family Service of Rochester. The Northfield Enriched Housing is a residential home that provides a fully inclusive program of three meals a day, case management, financial management and on site care as needed for low income seniors. This agency needs students to help with gardening, window washing indoors and outdoors, dusting and vacuuming. Cobblestone School 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Cobblestone School is a leader in child-centered education. It is a model of current teaching practices that promotes each student's unique intellectual, social, and emotional growth. The school leaves intact and fosters each child's innate love of learning and curiosity about the world. Small classes allow the teachers to challenge each child to grow into his or her potential while participating as an active member of a learning community. The Cobblestone School is looking for a group of students to garden, paint and mulch the playground, paint picnic tables and classrooms, wash windows inside and outside, clean and sweep floors and clean out lockers. Please dress for indoor and outdoor cleaning and painting. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Mary's Place 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Mary's Place is an affiliate agency of the Rochester Refugee Resettlement Network. The purpose of this collaboration is to provide whatever necessary services and opportunities needed to ensure successful assimilation of refugees into our society, resulting in them being self-sustaining, law abiding contributors to our society while maintaining their cultural heritage. Mary's Place is a Refugee Outreach Center that distributes donated clothes, furnishings, toys and cookware to refugees in the area. Mary's Place also helps all ages with their English skills. Many volunteer at Mary's Place to teach ESL. Mary's Place would like student volunteers to help organize donations and to work with refugees, just spending free time with them or helping them with their English skills.
St. Mary's Church 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot St. Mary's Roman Catholic church and its partner St. Mark's Church in Kendall are active churches in the local community. Every fall these churches hold their annual St. Rocco Italian Festival, which will be held this year on September 5th. St. Mary's church is looking for students to assist in the preliminary set up for this festival. Students are needed to set up games, tables, stands and tents. Heavy lifting will be involved much of the day. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Hamlin Beach State Park 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Hamlin Beach State Park's clear water, sandy beaches and 264 tent and trailer campsites bring thousands of visitors to the park each year. The Yanty Creek Marsh area at the east end of the park has a mile long self-guided nature trail. In addition, there are 10 miles of hiking and biking trails, as well as snowmobile and cross-country skiing trails. The state park would like students to till the mulch on the playground, clear the brush and sticks from the Yanty Scout Trail, clear the brush and debris from the camping area, clean up the trash and debris from the coastal area and clean up the weeds, trash and debris from selected parking lots. Please be prepared to work outdoors and dress appropriately. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
National Kidney Foundation 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot The Badge of Honor Association (BOHA)is a non profit organization dedicated to honoring law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. On August 28th at Cobbs Hill Park, the National Kidney Foundation will participate in the annual the Copapooloza event; a fun filled day of games and education for officers, their families, and the community. Every year they identify a charitable organization to help promote partnership and strengthen law enforcement relationships with the communities they serve. This year BOHA selected the National Kidney Foundation. We need help to raise awareness of Chronic Kidney Disease and organ transplantation. Represent the National Kidney Foundation at a display booth and distribute educational handouts and materials, assist children in interactive games and distribute and obtain signatures on organ donor pledge cards. Senior Options for Independence 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot This is a unique volunteer opportunity. This project site is the home of an older couple who need assistance with the upkeep of their home. They would simply like students to weed the gardens in the backyard. Though this may not sound like much, services such as this, when provided to older adults, enable them to remain independent in their homes and integrated into the intergenerational community, rather than having to move to an unfamiliar seniors only facility. Please dress for outdoor yard work. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Free the Children 11 am - 3:30 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Free the Children is an advocacy group involved in the global campaign to end the recruitment and use of child soldiers. Free the Children needs a group of students to help prepare for Red Hand Day, a global awareness day to help put an end to the use of child soldiers. This project involves writing letters to the embassy, making Red Hand Day signs and posters and designing informational Red Hand Day print outs. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the project site.
Camp Good Days 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Camp Good Days and Special Times, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges. All of the programs and services provided by Camp Good Days are offered free of charge for the participants. While none of the services at Camp Good Days will find a cure for cancer or other life threatening challenges, everything they do will help to provide some good days and special times for the very special children and families they serve. Camp Good Days needs a group of students to paint and stain picnic tables and chairs. Also, a few gardens need some light weeding. Please wear work clothes appropriate for the outdoors. Meet at the listed location to be directed to the necessary bus for transportation to the project.
Women with Vision 11 am - 3 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Women with Vision is a group of women who help get women off the streets. They assist women that are addicted to drugs by housing them and creating a drug program for the women to attend. They also help women that were homeless, in jail, and women with children and low self esteem. They create a home for women who are trying to gain back their lives. Volunteers would be scrapping and painting the walls in the new home for the women who are seeking help. Students should wear clothes for painting. Light refreshments will be served.
Partners in Community Development 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Partners in Community Development is a not-for-profit organization that provides on-site activities and services to apartment communities that promote community, tolerance, empowerment and wellness among all residents. They need volunteers to help them with their annual carnival held at the Los Flamboyanes apartment complex in Rochester, NY. Volunteers will help with operating the game stations as well as the jumping gym.
Special Olympic Stadium 11 am - 4 pm Tuttle North Tuttle North Parking lot Student help is needed right here on campus at The College at Brockport. The bleachers in the special olympic stadium is greatly in need of repainting and restaining. Help make the special olympics stadium sparkle! Wear clothes appropriate for painting. Sneakers or old, closed toed shoes is highly recommended.
