Frequently Asked SOS Questions:

  • What is SOS?
    • On Saturday, August 25, 2012, new first-year and transfer students will go out in to the local community to complete approximately 2 hours of community service before their first day of class at The College at Brockport.
  • When can I sign up?
    • Transfers - SOS sign-up is available below. The first five projects below are dedicated to transfer students only.
    • Freshmen- SOS sign-up occurs during Summer Orientation, however, feel free to sign up below.
  • What do I need to sign-up?
    • You will need your Brockport email address (netID) and Student ID (Banner) number in order to sign up. Click here if you do not know that information.
  • When will I know more information for the event?
    • You will receive more information regarding your SOS project along with your transportation information prior to Welcome Week. Stay tuned to your Brockport email!
  • What if I have a conflict during SOS? What if I am a Fall athlete?
    • Saturday of Service is a mandatory event for all freshmen. If you have a conflict, send an email to serve@brockport.edu. If you are a Fall athlete, talk to your coach to see if you have a scrimage.
  • What if I need special accommodations?
    • If you need any special accommodations please feel free to email us or call The Office of Community Development at 585-395-5245.  We work closely with the Office for Students with Disabilities to accommodate any special needs.
  • I am not a freshmen or transfer, but I want to be a part of SOS. Can I get involved?
    • We'd love you to join us! We are in need of SOS Team Leaders and Parking Lot Volunteers. Sign up here!

Brockport Central Schools - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Students will be helping teachers set up their classrooms for the upcoming school year the project involves designing bulletin boards or displays, filing records, labeling ect.
Transfer Students Only - Boys & Girls Club of Rochester - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Help with create a craft with club members and assist with clean up (inside & outside.) Please wear a t-shirt, jeans/shorts and closed toe shoes. If weather is unfavorable please dress accordingly. An e-mail will be sent with further information.
Transfer Students Only - Mt. Carmel Church of God - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Help with Annual Car-Wash/Community Outreach event by: washing cars, holding up signs, helping with baked-goods table and handing out door hangers. Please wear a t-shirt, jeans/shorts and closed toe shoes. If weather is unfavorable, please dress accordingly. An e-mail will be sent with further information.
Transfer Students Only- Hillside Family of Agencies - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Work outdoors with recreation staff on a Camp Clean Up organizing the clubhouse and barn facilities. Please wear a t-shirt, jeans/shorts and closed toe shoes. If weather is unfavorable, please dress accordingly. An e-mail will be sent with further information.
Transfer Students Only - Twelve Corners Day Care - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Help daycare staff members remove childrens climbing equipment from play-room in order to wash and dry, then re-install. Please wear a t-shirt, jeans/shorts and closed toe shoes. If weather is unfavorable, please dress accordingly. An e-mail will be sent with further information.
Transfer Students Only - St. Rocco's Italian Festival - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Help prepare for the Italian Festival by assisting with cleaning building equipment. Please wear a t-shirt, jeans/shorts and closed toe shoes. An e-mail will be sent with further information.
Swan Library - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Swan library will be closing and opening a new branch. Students will help with cleaning up by washing floors, gardening, vacuuming, washing windows on lower floor, and cleaning shelves. An email will be sent out Welcome Week with detailed instructions on the project and transportation details.
Brockport Child Development Center - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Brockport Child Development Center provides a stimulating developmental appropriate environment staffed by nurturing and caring Early Childhood Professionals. Students will wash windows inside and outside of Cooper Hall. An email will be sent out Welcome Week with detailed instructions on the project and transportation details.
Kiddie Kollege - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Kiddie Kollege provides year-round, Monday through Friday, childcare and learning services for children ages 6 weeks to 12. Students will help out with a variety of paining project , washing equipment and washing walls. An email will be sent out Welcome Week with detailed instructions on the project and transportation details.
Fast Trax - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will distribute locks and keys to various hubs around campus, and locking up bikes. An email will be sent out Welcome Week with detailed instructions on the project and transportation details.
The Schoolhouse of Brockport - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Our program focuses on life skills, socialization, and Kindergarten readiness in a structured and active setting. Students will help with weeding, playground cleaning, washing cabinets and baseboards, and washing white fences. An email will be sent out Welcome Week with detailed instructions on the project and transportation details.
Lifetime Assistance Site 1 - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Helping people with developmental disabilities discover realize the opportunities of a lifetime. Students will serve by completing a tie-dye project with 4 ladies at the Pine Valley Drive location. Please wear clothes that could possibly get dye on them. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details of the project and transportation details.
Newman Center - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V The Newman Center promotes and encourages the spiritual growth of all members of the college through opportunity of prayer, growth and study. Students will paint rails of the church, some gardening, and cleaning of chairs period. An email will be sent out Welcome Week with detailed instructions on the project and transportation details.
St. John Early Childhood Program - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will serve by working on the nature trail, putting down mulch, planting shrubs and flowers. Some painting may be involved.An email will be sent out Welcome Week with detailed instructions on the project and transportation details.
Hamlin Recreation - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will assist with park clean up, painting, building props for a haunted house, and cleaning of sports equipment. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details about the service and bus transportation.
Hamlin United Methodist Church - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V We will be in the first of a two day rummage sale event. Some students could help with that. In addition we would like to do a painting of part of our fellowship hall and/or annex building. An email will be sent out Welcome Week with detailed instructions on the project and transportation details.
First Presbyterian Church - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will help with maintenance of the church by general painting, cleaning, yard work, scraping walls for painting prep, washing walls, pressure washing outside walls, and staining sheds. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details of the service and transportation specifics.
Fairport Music and Food Festival - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will help with various aspects of the festival including trash details, street sweeping, table washing, handing out programs to patrons, and working the information booth among other duties. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details about the service and bus transportation.
Athletes in Action - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Helping athletes and coaches on some of the world's most influential pro and college sports teams grow in character and faith. Students will assist by raking, trimming grass, and preparing the baseball fields for play. An email will be sent our prior to Welcome Week with instructions on the project and the bus details.
Camp Good Days - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Camp Good Days is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, adults and families whose lives have been touched by cancer and other life challenges. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with instructions on the project and transportation details.
Mary's Place - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Reaching out in love, hope and service to refugees of all faiths and nationalities, especially those in Northwest Rochester, NY. Students will participate in helping organize and volunteer in an outside game day for refugee children. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with instructions on the project and bus transportation details.
Foodlink - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Foodlinks mission is to provide hunger relief, eliminate the root causes of hunger, improve health and promote economic development. Students will work with Foodlink to sort food donations and prepare them for shipment. Volunteers will also help to pack kids meal bags for the weekend BackPack Program as well. Christ Community Church - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will participate in a variety of projects in cleaning the church and making it beautiful. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with instructions on the project and transportation details.
Genesee Center for the Art Education - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will help with the logistics and clean up of a community festival. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details of the service and transportation specifics.
Sisters of Saint Joseph of Rochester - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Serving our neighbors, all people, no matter who they are or where they find themselves, is our mission. Students will help by cleaning out classrooms at Nazareth Elementary School in preparation for an art program beginning in the fall. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details about the project and bus transportation.
Second Baptist Church Leroy - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot v Students will assist with a revitalization project by assisting with cleaning and clearing out the church basement and painting several walls. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details about the project and transportation.
Brockport Vol. Fire Department - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will participate in a variety of tasks around the fire station including painting and light cleaning. Other services that may be needed will be around the fire trucks. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with instructions on the project and transportation details.
Doug Miller Soccer - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Assist in the cleaning up of debris and garbage along the border of the facility and Manitou Road. Assist in rock hounding softball size stones off our 2nd soccer field that is in development stage. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details about the service and transportation.
Episcopal Senior Life Communities - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will assist with a Bingo event. Students will have the opportunity to help staff set up for the event, usher residents to the event, run the Bingo Party, and interact with the residents. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details about the service and transportation.
City of Rochester Department of Recreation and Youth Services - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Students will prune, mulch, and weed along trails, river garden, and river access areas. Proper clothing and shoes must be worn. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with instructions about the project and transportation details.
Youth for Christ - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Students will help with general care of the facilities thorough yard work and cleaning. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details about the service and bus transportation.
Walker Bible Bapist Church - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Lot V Students will serve by performing tasks including landscaping, cleaning, and possible painting around the church. Please wear clothing that may get dirty or paint on it. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details about the project and bus transportation.
Stepping Stones Learning Center - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V A Learning Center, a not-for-profit, family centered program for children birth to 21 years of age with and without special needs. Students will help out by cleaning childrens equipment, mopping, weeding, and transporting mulch and sand in wheelbarrows. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details about the service and bus transportation.
Jefferson Avenue Child Development Center - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will assist the center in creating bulletin boards, cleaning the parking lot, cleaning the playground, and ground work on the field. An email will go out prior to Welcome Week with details about the service and bus transportation.
National MS Society Upstate New York Chapter - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will assist the chapter by preparing for an MS bike event. Students will be packing boxes, sorting supplies, and creating signs. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details about the service and bus transportation.
Village of Brockport Parks Committee - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will serve by assisting with gardening, landscaping, and moving mulch. Please plan on wearing clothing that may become dirty. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details of the service and bus transportation.
CURE Childhood Cancer - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North V Lot Improving the lives of families coping with childhood cancer or blood disorders by providing emotional, educational and financial assistance. Students will provide assistance in yard work such as weeding, raking and trimming of shrubs. Indoor work will include cleaning windows, dusting, and polishing furniture. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with instructions about the project and transportation details.
Ronald McDonald House - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Ronald McDonald House provides lodging and emotional support to families of children receiving medical treatment in area medical facilities. Students will serve by helping prepare the grounds around the home. Please wear appropriate clothing for yard work. Work gloves are also advised. Twelve Corners Day Care Center - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Twelve Corners Day Care Center is a quality child care provider that promotes a safe, nurturing environment for children to develop a positive self image and to grow through a variety of social, emotional, physical, and intellectual experiences. Students will help with washing, drying, and set up of equipment for childrens fitness room. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with project and transportation details.
Step by Step of Rochester INC. - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V The mission of Step by Step is to empower women who are, have been, or are at risk of being incarcerated to claim their strengths and build healthy lives for themselves and their families. Students will serve by assisting with cleaning out storage and garage units as well as some yard work. Please wear work appropriate clothing. Brockport United Methodist Church - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will work with the Brockport United Methodist Church in a variety of landscaping projects. Please wear clothing appropriate for getting dirty. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with instructions on the project and bus transportation details.

Cameron Community Ministries - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will assist with the Clothing House Switch Over which will involve putting away, folding, sorting summer clothes into storage. Students will also be sorting, folding, and hanging up winter clothing. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with instructions for the project and transportation details.
Rochester and Genesee Valley Railroad Museum - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North V Lot he mission is to establish, promote, and maintain an appreciation for the current and past contributions of railroad and transit organizations to the American way of life with particular emphasis on the Rochester, Monroe County, and western New York geographical area. Students will provide service by assisting with the Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup along Route 251. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details about the project and the bus transportation.
Volunteers of America Western New York - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North V Lot Students will volunteer their time in the store cleaning and straightening. Students may also assist with a donation drive by manning the donations door and/or a VOA donations truck stationed in front of the store and collecting donated items dropped off by customers. Catholic Family Center - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North Lot V Students will help with cleaning and organizing the kitchen, lawn work, sorting donations, dating and stocking food, and small paint jobs. Please wear appropriate clothing that may become dirty. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with instructions on the project and transportation details.
Cobblestone Society and Museum - Register Online 1 pm - 5 pm Tuttle North V Lot Students will serve by various inside cleaning of the building including washing, dusting, and sweeping. Outside work will include weeding and trimming. Please wear clothing that may become dirty and bring water and a water bottle as drinking water will not be available. An email will be sent out prior to Welcome Week with details about the service and bus transportation.
Aurora House of Western Monroe County - Register Online 1:30 pm - 3 pm Tuttle North LOT V Miscellaneous small projects to assist with upkeep of comfort care home for the dying. May include weeding, sweeping driveway, cleaning deck railings and deck floor, painting small area. All supplies provided. If weather is inclement students will be assisting with indoor cleaning projects.
Make a Difference Day - Register Online 1:30 pm - 3 pm Tuttle North LOT V Students will be assisting in handing out brochures for Make a Difference Day 5k Fun Run/Walk on the campus at the College at Brockport to Support the Brockport ecumenical foodshelf. Students will canvas door to door to encourage residencieys surrounding the campus to make a difference against hunger.
