Dear Faculty, Staff and Students:
Welcome Week 2013 is a wonderful opportunity to show our incoming and returning students that we not only care about making sure they arrive safely, but that our entire College community is engaged in their well-being. For the fall 2013 semester Welcome Week will begin on Thursday, August 22, and continue through September 2.
Last year, more than 300 volunteers helped approximately 1,100 students during Welcome Week. Volunteers responded in a number of ways last year, but our widely acclaimed Move-In process and Saturday of Service were two of our major volunteer opportunities.
I very much appreciate the fact that so many of you take the time to help our students, and I can personally tell you how thankful these students – and their parents – are that we care enough to help.
Welcome Week is a chance to not only help our students, but also for the College to come together as a community. For specific volunteer opportunities, including Move-In and Saturday of Service please follow the links below. I thank you in advance for any time you can find to assist and interact with our students – and each other.
Sincerely,
John R. Halstead, PhD
President
For many years now, faculty, staff and student groups have provided the "people power" to make our Move-In program a success. The Move-In program is a great opportunity to interact with our students in a non-academic environment, and what a wonderful impression a helping hand makes with our students, particularly our freshmen and their families. Move-In assistance will be offered on Thursday, August 22; Friday, August 23 and Saturday, August 24, where there is a wide variety of volunteer positions available. Even a half day of yours or your club, organization, or departments time will make a difference in demonstrating to our students our commitment to their success. Sign up below. Contact sarno@brockport.edu with any questions.
Saturday of Service (SOS) is a great opportunity to volunteer your time and work alongside our new freshmen through community service activities, and become engaged in our local community.
Our SOS team leaders will lead a team of new students on a service project - ride with the students on the bus, oversee the project, be a liaison between Brockport and the site, participate in the project, create a comfortable environment for the students to be in, help students reflect on the significance of their participation on the bus ride back to campus, and provide feedback regarding your team's experience. More information regarding training and details will be provided soon. Dinner on-campus upon return will be provided. Open to faculty, staff, and upperclass students. Contact serve@brockport.edu with any questions.
Our SOS parking lot volunteers will assist approximately 1,000 students in finding the right bus for their appropriate site. More information regarding training and details will be provided soon. Open to faculty, staff, and upperclass students. Contact serve@brockport.edu with any questions.
