Alpha Kappa Delta
The Department of Sociology at SUNY Brockport is proud to have a chapter of Alpha Kappa Delta (AKD), an international sociological honor society founded in 1920. This is a prestigious honor society recognizing sociology majors who achieve academic excellence. There are currently 25 members in the SUNY Brockport Chapter, all of whom must have earned a grade point average of 3.0 or above in their major and overall.
Members are inducted into AKD at an annual spring induction ceremony and dinner, at which an invited sociologist speaks. This is a time of much celebration, including faculty, students, parents, and members of the administration.
In addition, AKD meets regularly, working on various projects in the department. Our most recent project was a fund raiser for the annual dinner. Students are selling t-shirts with the department logo and a quotation from Talcott Parson's 1974 visit to SUNY Brockport, "Don't Take It So Seriously." Run right down to the Department of Sociology office and pick up your own t-shirt for only $10!
