What is the TRIO Student Support Services Program?

Image of students and tutors in working together in Tutoring Center The TRIO Student Support Services Program (SSSP), located in Room C7 and C5 of Cooper Hall on the SUNY Brockport campus, is funded by the U.S. Department of Education through the Research Foundation of SUNY. Its purpose is to increase the opportunity for success among college students who qualify for participation. The program assists students in completing a college degree with the highest GPA possible by providing academic advisement, one-to-one tutoring, personal and career counseling, and by offering free access to campus social and cultural events.

Students accepted for enrollment at SUNY Brockport are eligible to participate in SSSP if they are not participating in the Educational Opportunity Program and meet one or more of the following criteria:

First-generation college student: neither parent has obtained a bachelor's degree; or
Low-income according to U.S. government guidelines (as shown in our application); or
Learning, emotionally, or physically disabled. (Verification is necessary.

The TRIO Student Support Services Program works closely with the College's Office for Students with Disabilities.
(SUNY Brockport students who are not eligible for participation in TRIO SSSP can access similiar academic support at the Student Learning Center and can receive counseling services at the Counseling Center.)
