Bonner to take up the gavel
|
As the close of the school year, Professor of Biological Sciences
Tom Bonner will step up as president of the Faculty Senate for two
years, following current President Anne
Parsons. "Among my goals will be to continue to build the
excellent relationship the Senate has with President
Paul Yu," Bonner said.
A second goal will be to complete the rigorous strategic planning process in a timely fashion. To do that Bonner has shaped an Executive Committee, many of whose members will be chairing Senate Committees charged with strategic planning assignments. Pending the approval of the Faculty Senate, the following have been appointed to the Executive Committee: *Larry Kline, biological sciences, will chair the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, which will work in tandem with the Graduate Curriculum Committee, now under the leadership of Susan Seem, counselor education, to respond to the strategic planning questions: "What will we teach our students?" and "How will we support learning and teaching?" *Roger Weir, student affairs, will chair the Student Policies Committee, which, along with now-Senate Vice President Sri Ram Bakshi, theatre, who will chair the newly formed Personnel Committee, will work on answering "What systemic changes resource allocation, student life, faculty and staff roles and rewards, etc. will we need to make?" |
*Jose Maliekel, earth sciences, will chair the new Enrollment
Management Committee.
*Jennifer Lloyd, women's studies, will chair the General Education Undergraduate Committee. *Karla Linn Merrifield, marketing communications, will chair the Environment Committee, which will be charged to answer the strategic question "How will we get both the internal and external constituencies to recognize our quality? *James Cordeiro, business administration, will chair the Budget Committee and grapple with the question "What resources will we need to realize our aspirations?" *Kathy Groves, continuing education and distance learning, will continue as secretary *Morris Beers, education and human development, will be parlimentarian. The planning process is to conclude during the fall 1998 semester. "We have our work cut out for this summer and into the fall, but there is no question that we have the right people in the right place to achieve our goals," Bonner added. |
As reported in the April 29 issue of The Stylus, SUNY Brockport's advertising campaign has taken on a whole new look and flavor. Ours is an extraordinary success story and we're letting the world know. Well, not the whole world, but, for starters, the greater Rochester area. This new, first-ever four-color ad will be appearing in rotation in May, June and August in Time, Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report. In July, it'll hit the newsstands and mailboxes in Next Step, a statewide publication targeted to pre-college teens. That's just for starters. On the planning boards this summer will be a new TV commercial and a new radio spot, both picking up on the extraordinary new theme. What's so extraordinary about SUNY Brockport? Read the ad!
